Platte Valley Bank Announces New Leadership Roles


The Platte Valley Bank Board of Directors is pleased to announce new leadership roles in locally owned bank

Katy Wolf Bode, elected Chief Executive Officer & Cashier, will be responsible for overall management of all activities of the bank while continuing focus on technology, new product development, contract negotiations, financial reporting and serve as IT Security Officer.   Katy serves as a member of the Board of Directors since January 2007.  Katy began her banking career at Platte Valley Bank in 1993 working part-time as a high school student.  Katy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with emphasis in Accounting from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  Katy returned to Platte Valley Bank in December 2004 with valuable experience after nearly 6 years with Smith Bucklin Corporation, the largest association management company in the world, serving as Manager of Revenue and Analysis.  Katy is a graduate of the Nebraska Banker’s Association Advanced School of Banking, NBA Leadership Program class of 2008-2010, recognized as a Rising Star in Banking by NorthWestern Financial Review magazine July 2014 and chaired the Nebraska Bankers Association/Kansas Bankers Association Schools of Banking General Banking Advisory Committee from 2012-2013.  She also is active locally serving as North Bend Chamber of Commerce treasurer, former president and chairperson of the Bike Ride Across Nebraska North Bend stop in 2017.  Katy’s community involvement includes serving as Vice President and President of the West Bay Parent Teacher Organization, Girl Scout Troop leader and Chairperson of many school fundraisers.  Katy and her husband, John, have two daughters, Ellen and Kate.   

Brent J. Karnatz was elected President of Platte Valley Bank and was elected to its Board of Directors.  Brent joined Platte Valley Bank in January 2005 as Assistant Vice President.  Brent will be responsible for overall management of the bank including lending functions.  Brent will continue handling and managing a portfolio of Commercial, Agriculture, Consumer, and Real Estate loans in addition to Bank Secrecy Act Officer, Internal Auditor, Co-Compliance Officer, and a member of the Information Technology, Loan and Security Committees.  Prior to joining Platte Valley Bank, Brent worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a Risk Management Examiner from June 1999 to December 2004.  Brent graduated from Schuyler High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Brent is a graduate of the Nebraska Bankers Association Leadership Program class of 2010-2012 and past member of the Government Relations committee.  Brent and wife Jennifer, a speech therapist at North Bend Central, contribute much to the local community through the North Bend Chamber of Commerce, North Bend Optimist, coaching youth sports, and as the St. Peter Lutheran Church preschool treasurer.  They have three children, Reid, Hadley, and Kendall. 

Mark D. Flamme, was elected Senior Vice President and is Platte Valley Bank’s senior lending officer and primary agriculture loan officer.  Mark Flamme has been involved in banking and agriculture since graduating from North Bend Central High School in 1980.   Mark attended Platte College, Columbus, NE, worked at Green Valley Implement, farmed with his father, Marvin, and brother, Maynard, from 1984-1989, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in  Business Administration at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1993.  Mark worked for First Nebraska Bank, Emerson, NE and the Bank of Elgin prior to joining Platte Valley Bank September 18, 2000 as Vice President and Loan Officer.   Mark is an experienced lender in Agriculture, Commercial, Consumer and Real Estate loans.   Mark is Co-Compliance Officer, prepares Community Reinvestment Act reports to the Board and is a member of numerous committees.   Mark is a graduate of the Nebraska Bankers Association Leadership Program class of 2006-2008.  His community involvement includes the North Bend Chamber of Commerce, Union Township board member, Treasurer of Presbyterian Church and past member of the North Bend Area Golf Association board of directors.  Mark has twin daughters, Allena and Olivia.

Cheryl J. Wietfeld was elected Vice President & Assistant Cashier.  Cheryl joined the bank in August 1997 as a teller/bookkeeper.  Cheryl advanced to position of personal banker in March 2004 assisting customers with new accounts, Individual Retirement Accounts, Certificates of Deposits, ACH payments and audit, wires and banking compliance.    Most recently Cheryl has transitioned into lending as she has proven to be a leader with a deep understanding of customer needs and consistently delivers outstanding service.  Cheryl graduated from North Bend Central High School and Kearney State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting.  Cheryl’s been extremely active in local organizations including North Bend Post Prom, St. Charles Youth Group, VFW Auxiliary and North Bend Swim Team.  Cheryl and her husband Steve, have five boys, Kale, Chase, Jake, Tanner and Jaxon. 

Thomas E. Wolf will continue his position as Chairman of the Board.  Tom’s banking career spans almost 59 years, beginning with check filing June 1, 1959 in the vault of Platte Valley Bank, North Bend.  While a student at UNL, Tom worked as an assistant auditor at the National Bank of Commerce.  After receiving a Masters degree in Business Administration from Santa Clara University, Tom worked at First Hawaiian Bank, Oahu, Hawaii, returning to Platte Valley Bank in 1969.  Tom continued his banking experience at First National Bank Omaha 1970 -74, spending a year in the Officer’s Training program, working in the Credit Card Department, Personal Banker, Marketing Officer, & Assistant Manager of the Baker’s Square Branch Office.  Upon the death of his father, Arden D. Wolf, Tom returned to Platte Valley Bank in April 1974 and accepted the duties of Executive Vice President & CEO.  He was elected President and CEO in 1979, and Chairman of the Board in 1984.  Tom has been very active with the Nebraska Banker’s Association serving as Chairman in 2004/05, served on Bank Pac Committee, NBISCO Board of Directors, VEBA Chairman, Networks Board, ABA Community Banker’s Council, ABA Membership Council, and Leadership selection committee.
